A leaked photo of a new drone’s packaging shows that the DJI Mavic 3 Pro is likely on its way. We immediately see the most significant difference on the outside, and that is that the drone has three cameras. That would mean it will be the first prosumer drone with three cameras.
The DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine have two cameras, with the main camera mounted on a Micro FourThirds sensor and the 162mm zoom camera using a 1/2″ sensor. DJI made a gigantic step and upgrade with these prosumer drones. For some users, this step was a bit too much and so the Chinese company later released the DJI Mavic 3 Classic, which uses a single camera on the MFT sensor.

And while it all seemed fine, dissatisfaction with the quality of the 162mm zoom on the tiny 1/2-inch sensor set in fairly quickly. Did DJI listen carefully to its users, or did they already have the Mavic 3 Pro in store? Anyway, after a quiet year, DJI seems to want to add more drones to their arsenal, which ranks high in our list of the best drones.

The image clearly shows a third camera and, according to @DealsDrone, it is a zoom camera with a focal length of 70mm on a 1-inch or 1/2-inch sensor. The difference between the main camera (24mm) and the zoom camera (162mm) is huge, and to zoom in to 50mm or 85mm you now have to use the digital zoom on the MFT sensor.
Although zooming in easy to accomplish on the MFT-sensor, you always compromise on quality. A third and separate 70mm zoom camera should ensure that you can still take razor-sharp images without loss of quality. Because, of course, this new zoom camera must deliver better images than the MFT sensor would at 70mm.
Stepless zoom
A stepless zoom would be ideal, allowing the camera operator to make smooth zooms without having to work in steps. In reality, this is more difficult because you have to switch cameras and sensors. It should be clear that an extra sensor and zoom option improves quality and versatility. The image shows the Mavic 3 Pro in a Fly More combination with the pricey DJI RC Pro controller.
