The DJI Mini 4 Pro drone has been spotted! Are we going to see the Pro 4 in 2023?

There is only a leaked photo available, but that’s usually how it starts. What’s visible is a drone that resembles the DJI Mini 4 Pro. Is DJI already planning to release a successor to the Mini 3 Pro?

It’s remarkable, considering that the DJI Air 3 has just been released and on the market, and DJI seems to have been working on the successor to the DJI Mini 3 Pro for quite some time.

The DJI Mini 4 Pro has been spotted in a photo leaked by @Quadra_News on Twitter, but that’s about it. No specifications, no prices, or dates. However, based on the photo, we can gather some insights into what the Mini 4 Pro might offer.

The design obviously looks quite similar to that of the Mini 3 Pro, but there are changes. While the Mini 3 Pro rests entirely on its belly, the drone in the photo has received feet under the front propeller arms. It’s apparent that the belly is slightly lifted, which should raise the camera further off the ground as well.

360-degree Obstacle Sensors

If you examine the image closely, it seems that additional sensors have been placed on top of the Mini 4 Pro. This could indicate the presence of fish-eye obstacle sensors. The Mini 3 Pro already employs a 3-way obstacle detection system, but the Mini 4 Pro might extend this to 360 degrees.

Camera Options

It appears that the DJI Mini 4 Pro drone will retain a single camera. The current camera features a 1/1.3-inch sensor with a 24mm f/1.7 lens and a 48-megapixel sensor. Since the Air 3 uses the same sensor, it’s unlikely that the Mini 4 Pro will use a different or newer sensor.

Why an Update to DJI Mini 3 Pro already?

Who knows, the Mini 4 Pro might be a comprehensive update with the latest technologies. Think about OcuSync 4.0, the latest DJI transmission system that offers up to 20km of range and additional obstacle sensors.

RC-N1 and Smart controller

The drone will likely remain under 250 grams, allowing you to fly it anywhere without needing a pilot’s licence. Perhaps the battery will also last a bit longer. The current flight time is a maximum of 47 minutes, and we’re curious about how much more DJI can squeeze out now.

The new DJI RC-N2 controller.

With the new OcuSync 4.0 system, the RC-N2 controller would also be introduced.

Why an Update to DJI Mini 3 Pro already?

The DJI Mini 3 Pro was released in May 2022, making it just over a year old. If you already own the Mini 3 Pro, upgrading to the Mini 4 Pro might not seem very logical.

Releasing the Mini 4 Pro in 2023 seems quite early and not very logical from a marketing perspective. Who knows, maybe it will be in 2024 instead?
