Sigma will release two lenses for full-frame cameras and will also add a prime model for APS-C users. We may already be able to see the three lenses during the CP+ 2023 Tech show in Japan.
Sigma will be releasing a wide-angle and standard prime for full-frame lenses and a 35mm lens for APS-C cameras. Sigma was once known as a budget lens maker, but nowadays carries the name of high-end lens producer at competitive prices.
Lenses for Sony E, Leica, Panasonic, Sigma L and Fujifilm X
That’s right, Nikon and Canon are missing from the list of mounts, and that’s because Canon and Nikon prohibit other brands from making lenses for Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts. Because Sigma continues to produce good lenses, they are pushing the two camera giants into a corner and who knows, maybe Canon and Nikon will allow Sigma to make lenses for Nikon Z and Canon RF-mount.
Sigma 17mm f/4 DG DN
According to Mirrorless Rumors, one of the lenses being announced is a 17mm f/4 DG DN lens. It is intended for full-frame cameras and consists of 9 elements in 8 groups, with a minimum focus distance of 120mm. The lens weighs just 225 grams and 220 grams for the E mount. This makes the lens very light and a good travel companion.
Sigma 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary
The second prime lens for full-frame cameras is the Sigma 50mm f/2 DG DN Contemporary. This is not as fast as the existing Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art, but at 350 grams it is a lot lighter. The Sony E-mount lens is even 6 grams lighter than the other mounts. In addition, a maximum aperture of f/2 is still perfect for shallow depth-of-field effects and darker conditions. The 50mm consists of 11 elements over 9 groups, with a minimum focus distance of 45 centimetres, 1:6.9 magnification and a filter diameter of 58mm.
Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for APS-C
Fortunately, Sigma also thinks about APS-C camera sensor users. The Sigma 23mm f/1.4 DC DN Cont. has a 34.5mm equivalent in full frame, due to the 1.5x sensor crop, making it good for street and portrait photography. The lens has 13 lens elements, divided into 10 groups, a minimum focus distance of 25cm and weighs 340 grams.
Price and availability of new Sigma lenses
What the lenses will cost and when they will be released is not yet known. However, it is quite possible that they will be announced during the CP+ 2023 Tech Show in Japan.
